With gentle breezes and warm sunshine, all HIKSVS students and teachers spent a half day out of school enjoying a delightful trip to the Water Park in Tianjin last Friday.
Flowers were in blossom, trees with buds and birds singing all along the way made the park a beautiful spot to visit. Aside from that, students also got the chance to learn new knowledge from nature such as a traditional Chinese Poem of “The duck knows first when the river becomes warm in spring” and a Word Solitaire game to know more about the plants in and around the park.
The trip not only offered sightseeing and fun elements but also an educational experience. Students were given different mission cards before their departure from school. The assignments all linked with specific areas of the curriculum such as Arts, Science, Language, Culture and Sports. For example, Year 1 and Year 2 students were tasked with spring scenery painting, which required them to observe the plants during the trip and express, in drawing, their own understanding of nature.
Upon returning to school, the students shared the joys, learnings and memories they learned whilst on the trip. Learning outside the classroom is just as important as learning within the classroom. Exposure to extraordinary opportunities allow our students to enrich and embed their understanding and learning beyond the classroom, as well as help them ready themselves to take their places as leaders and contributors in the future world.
