At the end of every school year, we need a "rite” to witness our progress.
What is a rite?
In the French fairy tale, The Little Prince,
“They are what make one day different from other days, one hour from other hours.”
On July 2nd, a special day for the students at HIKSVS, we held our "Annual Prize Giving Ceremony", a particular highlight of the year. It was an important part of creating a history or legacy for the school and officially closed the academic year. All parents and students attended the ceremony and witnessed many winners of the annual awards. Although the epidemic has made international and domestic situations unpredictable, and many families temporarily can not make up their minds about entering a higher school in the future, our dual curriculum system gives parents the opportunity to choose. As long as our students are strong, we don't have to worry about how society will change in the future.
All the children at HIKSVS had worked extremely hard and their progress had been outstanding. The prize giving was to congratulate the winners and celebrate everyone for the effort throughout the year.
Attainment Awards
The attainment award was given to the child in each year group who had reached the highest standard overall in English, Mathematics and Chinese subject.
Progress Awards
Progress awards were for those children who had made the most progress during the past school year in English, Mathematics and Chinese subjects.
Subject Awards
Subject awards were presented for Art, Science, Physical Education and Music and Drama. The teachers had carefully considered the following criteria: exceptional effort in lessons, outstanding behaviour and overall performance in the subject’s assessments or exams.
Our Year 1 children are the youngest students in our school. We are very proud of the progress each and everyone of our Year 1s have made this year and as a celebration of their successful first year, each child was awarded with a graduation certificate.
Four Journeys Awards
In this school year, our enrichment programme has continued to expand. The activities such as Charity Day, Cross Country, Sports Day, Art Festival, choir and the school dancing team along with house tennis, football, chess, modelling, public speaking and excursion have given a really diverse range of opportunities. Four Journeys Awards were for the students who had shown exceptional performance during these activities in enrichment, community and leadership. We were honoured to have Mr. Astbury & Mrs Nie to present the awards to the winners.
Take advantage of the fact that time has not passed, take advantage of youth, take dreams as horses, work hard and run towards a glorious tomorrow! This is an unforgettable time. We have welcomed the first generation of Year 7 graduates of HIKSVS, and hope that they will continue to write their own glorious chapter in HIKSVS Secondary School.
Principle's Awards
Two final awards were given by Mrs Yang (Headmistress Prize) and Mr. Hurst (Principal’s Award). These awards were chosen by Mrs Yang and Mr. Hurst. The winners were Steven and Coco. They had best shown exceptional behaviour, good manners and exceptional effort in academic, enrichment, community, leadership and service.
House Winner
As the Principal announced final house points of the four houses, Hever became the House winner of 2021 with the highest house points.
It was a special and enjoyable morning for everyone. We ended the academic year with the Prize Giving Ceremony full of sense of ritual. We understand that some students will be disappointed if they do not receive an individual prize but there will be many opportunities throughout their educational journey at HIKSVS to receive recognition for what they have achieved. In the new year, school events and activities will have more of focus on academic rigour. A programme of academic challenge sessions on Saturday mornings will be offered to selected students. Regular parent meeting sessions will take place that focus on different subject areas. At this moment, we are full of confidence and we sincerely wish each student at HIKSVS a brighter future!
