This week saw the highlight of the HIKSVS School Sport calendar - our 2nd annual sports day. With the increasing size of the school, the day was split between Year 1 and 2 in the morning and Year 3,4 and 5 in the afternoon. The sports day was a chance for children to challenge themselves and show parents how much they have improved in Athletics during the year so far. During Mr Hurst's opening speech, he commented upon the life long friendships that would be created during the day and as a result of taking part in a variety of sports. Our key principles that students aimed to follow throughout the day were sportsmanship, teamwork, respect and enjoyment.
The House system that HIKSVS adopts creates a strong sense of teamwork, with the children excitedly encouraging those in the four houses to perform their best.
Year 1 and 2 sports day schedule featured 60m sprint races, a ball throw, jump ball relay, long jump and basketball throw. A team shuttle relay and tug of war took place in the closing stages on the track. The Year 3, 4 and 5 Sports Day also featured the Hurdles, Shot Putt, High Jump and Standing Long Jump. As a closing event, parents were invited to take part in the tug of war, with no shortage of willing participants!
On the track, Year 1 and 2 began the day with the 60m heats, whilst Years 3 to 5 began with the hurdles before moving on to the 60m sprint. All of the races were extremely competitive with some excellent running techniques being displayed.
