We often find that most children in foreign countries have excellent practical, artistic and creative abilities. They are problem solvers and are able to formulate their own opinion. One of the main reasons for their successful education is that the courses and extra-curricular activities that are offered abroad are abundant and varied. There is a particular focus and emphasis on art education from an early age.
In fact, art education is one of the best subjects for children, as it opens the door to a beautiful world. By nurturing and educating children in the arts we can stimulate their creativity and their ability to think independently, concentrate and have self-control. The ultimate goal of art education is to improve the comprehensive quality of children, enable them to help create a well-rounded individual.
In contrast, to examination-oriented education, the first-class international education concept places more importance of art within the curriculum. In the second half of the nineteenth Century, the British designer, novelist and poet William Morris launched the famous “Arts and Crafts Movement”. He attached great importance to the role of handicrafts and art in education. The movement called for more art classes in schools, so that people become a more rounded individuals.
Working with our British counterpart, HIKSVS has adopted a varied and dynamic curriculum. In particular, the “Enrichment” principle in “The Four Journey” enables children to experience the school’s a variety of courses, including music, art, drama, dance, science and so on. We feel this helps them to make greater progress in mind and body, develops their creativity, and social skills. Children have the option to choose their own art or specialised courses according to their own preferences.
Our school is currently filled with beautiful art and we enjoy these masterpieces. We are lucky to be able to study and be surrounded by the student’s handiwork.
In the lobby, you can often hear the sweet sound of the piano, a beautiful chorus, or the rhythm of drums.
We were able to enjoy many wonderful performances during our Arts Festival. It was fantastic to see the positivity enthusiasm and spirit of the HIKSVS students.
Art education does not depend on what kind of competitions the children have participated in, or what prizes they have won. It depends on what skills they have acquired, whether it can delight the mind and body, and whether it can develop their creative talent. We will continue to tap into every student’s artistic ability and to ensure they reach their potential.
