On August 26th, 2019, HIKSVS entered its third academic year. More than 100 new students joined the HIKSVS family. After the summer holiday, both children and teachers are bustling with life. At the opening ceremony, representatives of domestic and international teachers and senior students made speeches to welcome new students. The Principal Mr. Hurst proposed the following expectations to the whole school -- 5 keys to success.
- Respect - listening to others, following instructions, being polite and showing good manners in the classroom, on the playground and in the refectory.
- Safety - following class rules, using equipment properly, always walking especially in the corridor and washing your hands after you have been to the bathroom or before eating.
- Effort - try hard in all you do, don't disturb others, eat quietly and always try new things.
- Resilience - don't give up, always find ways that you can do better in your work, with your behaviour and in your manners.
- Punctuality - always be on time for school, tidy up quickly, finish your work on time, always arrive to your lessons on time and line up on the playground quickly and quietly.
On the first day when the new students enter the campus, they are so curious about all the fresh elements in the school. Parents and children soon found out that, compared with previous kindergartens where they came from, our school follows a strict timetable. There are eight subjects and dozens of activities available to them. There are also special rooms for science, art, music, drama, IT, dancing, library and other activities. The school’s playground is larger than that in the kindergarten and is more suitable for physical training and different sports. The first week is critical for new children. Under the guidance of teachers, the children have learned the following three aspects of campus life.
- Campus culture: get to know teachers, classrooms and new classmates, build a sense of security, and make new friends; Visit the campus, get familiar with the school environment, learn how to use the equipment, and increase the sense of belonging in the environment.
- Self-care: learn to get food in order; Eat quietly, slowly and cherish food; Learn to use the drinking machine.
- Safety: know the safety signs and the basic safety rules; Speak quietly, walk slowly, keep to the right when going upstairs; Understand the safety rules of outdoor activities.
Both the 5 keys to success proposed by Mr. Hurst at the opening ceremony and three aspects of new students’ adaptation education aim to cultivate new students to establish a good sense of rules. We wish every new student fit well in the new environment and start a healthy and rich school life.
