Cross country is one of our annual fixed house events at HIKSVS. SVS in the UK also follow this annual tradition – this activity fosters and embeds our ‘Four Journeys’ ethos in a real and meaningful way. Cross country combines the characteristics of sports and outdoor exploration. The main purpose is for the children to follow a map and complete fun activities at each coordinate. This sport originated in Sweden and has become a popular outdoor sport worldwide.
Sports education is popular across the world as it is an excellent way to cultivate children's sense of independence, perseverance and develop mental and physical strength. Here at HIKSVS we put great importance to this subject and have many house competitions throughout the year to develop a sense of house community.
Our first house competition this academic year is our annual cross country. Children and parents gather at the starting point, follow the map and complete a range of different fun sporting and problem-solving activities. Once they have completed each activity at each coordinate, children and parents must race back to the finish line and submit their punched map to collect dojos and super dojo points for their respective house.
This is a wonderful family orientated event, where many of our families joined in with the fun and developed our sense of community which fostered our HIKSVS family spirit! Many of our parents showed their strong competitive side too and much fun was had by all!!
