On 28th June, the last day of this academic year, we held our "Annual Prize Giving Ceremony". It is a key date in all British schools and is an important part of creating a history or legacy for the school. The ceremony is also the final formal event of the term and officially closes the academic year. Almost all parents and students attended the ceremony and witness dozens of winners. They represented the best performance for various achievements.
All the children at HIKSVS have worked extremely hard and their progress has been outstanding. The prize giving is to congratulate the winners and celebrate everyone for the effort throughout the year.
The attainment award is given to the child in each year group who has reached the highest standard overall in English, Mathematics and Chinese subject.
The progress awards are for those children who, based on their starting point at the beginning of the year, have made the most progress between September and now in English, Mathematics and Chinese subjects.
The subject awards are presented for Art, Science, Physical Education and Music and Drama. The teachers have carefully considered the following criteria: exceptional effort in lessons, outstanding behaviour and overall performance in the subject’s assessments or exams.
Our Year 1 children are the youngest students in our school. We are very proud of the progress each and every one of our Year 1s have made this year and as a celebration of their successful first year, each child was awarded with a graduation certificate.
The categories are Leadership, Community, Enrichment and Academic. We were very honoured to have a Sutton Valence alumni, Ms Nichole to present awards to the Four Journey Awards.
Two final awards were given by Mrs Yang (Headmistress Prize) and Mr Hurst (Principal's Award). These awards are chosen by Mrs Yang and Mr Hurst. They have best shown exceptional behaviour, good manners and exceptional effort in academic, enrichment, community, leadership and service.
As the Principal announced final house points of the four houses. Bodiam, with the highest house points, became the House winner of 2019.
It was a special and enjoyable afternoon for everyone and a nice way to end the academic year. This year, not all children received an award but a careful record would be kept of all winners and we would expect that over time all children will receive recognition of their efforts.
